ABOUT
David Córdoba-Hernández
Recognized for his colorful and sensitive performances, Colombian pianist David Córdoba has played at venues throughout South America, Central America, and the United States.
Highlight performances include collaborations with artists such as Vincent Lucas (Principal Flutist – Orchestre de Paris), John-Henry Crawford (Naxos Recording Artist), Elizabeth Osorio (Principal Flutist – Medellin Philharmonic Orchestra), and the opening of the 2021 season of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, performing Beethoven's Concerto No. 2 for Piano and Orchestra under the baton of Robert Moody. David enjoys a busy career as a collaborator with some of the most active artists and institutions of the Mid-South: University of Mississippi, Memphis Choral Arts, Arkansas State University, Opera Memphis, and Amaro Dubois.
David has also garnered awards in several competitions such as the Beethoven Club Competition - Memphis (1st place); WCM International Piano Competition – Northern Ireland (4th place); Colombian National Vocal Competition – Collaborative Piano Category (1st place); Memphis International Piano Competition (Honorable Mention); and the Concerto Competition – University of Memphis (Winner).
Driven by the belief in music's power to create meaning and community, David has been involved with organizations like the Puerto Rico Center for Collaborative Piano, the MTNA Collegiate Chapter, and, next year, he will co-launch PIANOCOLOMBIA.com with fellow pianist Natalia Vanegas, a website that will serve as a digital platform highlighting Colombian contemporary piano music.
Guided by pianist Teresita Gomez, David earned a Bachelor of Music at the University of Antioquia (Colombia) and a Master's in Piano Performance with Dr. Cathal Breslin and Dr. Jonathan Tsay at the University of Memphis. He is currently finishing a Doctorate in Musical Arts at the same institution.
